Liraglutide and Semaglutide may reduce muscle loss caused by obesity through the SIRT1 pathway

Abstract

Liraglutide and semaglutide reduced high-fat diet-induced body weight gain and improved muscle atrophy.

  • Both liraglutide and semaglutide decreased excessive lipid accumulation in mice on a high-fat diet.
  • These treatments eliminated the increase of muscle atrophy markers in skeletal muscle and C2C12 myotubes.
  • Liraglutide and semaglutide improved glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in the subjects.
  • Inhibition of expression diminished the beneficial effects of liraglutide and semaglutide on muscle health.
