GLP-1RA lowers fat buildup and improves recovery in shoulder tendon repair in rats

Abstract

Liraglutide treatment led to a significantly lower body mass index and reduced fatty infiltration in a rat model of rotator cuff tendon repair.

  • Fatty infiltration in the supraspinatus muscle was significantly reduced in rats treated with liraglutide.
  • No significant changes were observed in gene expression related to muscle atrophy or fatty infiltration.
  • Internal rotation improved early after rotator cuff surgery, while external rotation showed improvement later.
  • Muscle strength significantly increased in the liraglutide treatment group.
  • Compound muscle action potential (CMAP) showed significant improvement both early and late after surgery in the liraglutide group.
