Abstract
Total sleep deprivation impairs intrathecal tracer clearance.
- Cerebrospinal fluid may exchange with interstitial fluid along perivascular pathways, affecting brain solute clearance.
- Normal sleep is associated with increased overnight levels of amyloid-β and tau in plasma.
- Sustained aerobic exercise could modify brain influx and lymphatic measures, although current evidence is preliminary.
- Slow deep breathing and intermittent hypercapnia may alter cerebrospinal fluid dynamics, but enhanced clearance remains unconfirmed.
- Bright light therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation modify imaging signals related to fluid dynamics, which are indirect and nonspecific.
- Modifying neurofluid physiology may be possible, but changes in fluid motion or imaging signals should not be equated with improved solute clearance.
