Gut bacteria variety in cervical cancer patients: Comparing two DNA sequencing methods

Updated

Abstract

Comparative indices showed high congruence between 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing and shotgun metagenome sequencing.

  • The most abundant genera identified by 16S and WMS did not overlap.
  • Overlap was observed at the Phylum level, which was expected.
  • Relative abundances of individual genera correlated poorly between the two methodologies, with all P-values greater than 0.05.
  • Hierarchical clustering revealed overlapping enterotypes from both sequencing analyses.
  • Both methods agreed on demographic variables related to the patient population.
