Abstract

Gut microbiota dysbiosis is increasingly linked to autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The gut-brain axis may serve as a potential link between gut microbiota and ASD.
Microbial signatures specific to ASD are inconsistent across different studies.
Debate exists over whether observed associations are due to primary dysbiosis or confounding factors related to ASD, such as dietary restrictions and gastrointestinal issues.
