How gut bacteria products may influence Alzheimer's disease through immune and inflammation pathways

Abstract

A total of 260 gut microbiota-derived metabolites were initially retrieved, leading to the identification of 14 key overlapping targets related to Alzheimer's disease.

  • 196 common targets were identified by intersecting predicted metabolite-associated targets with Alzheimer's disease-related targets.
  • Central hub genes identified include IL6, NFKB1, IL1B, CXCL8, PPARG, FOS, and JUN.
  • The identified targets are mainly involved in immune-inflammatory responses, oxidative stress processes, and apoptosis regulation.
  • Overlapping targets are associated with inflammation-related signaling pathways such as NOD-like receptor, TNF, NF-κB, and MAPK.
  • Molecular docking suggested that metabolites like Enterodiol and Coumarin showed favorable compatibility with hub proteins IL6 and NFKB1.
