Two-way genetic study of the link between gut bacteria and trigeminal nerve pain

Updated

Abstract

Significant causal relationships were found between 5 gut microbiota types and trigeminal neuralgia.

  • Mendelian randomization analysis was used to explore potential causal relationships between gut microbiota and trigeminal neuralgia.
  • Specific gut microbiota associated with trigeminal neuralgia include Turicibacter, Roseburia_unclassified, Acidaminococcaceae, Eubacterium ruminantium group, and Bacteroides_plebeius.
  • The family Acidaminococcaceae was identified as a protective factor for trigeminal neuralgia, with an odds ratio of 0.60.
  • No evidence of reverse causation was detected in the analysis.
  • Sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of the findings.
