Essence

U.S. hallucinogen use was stable overall from 2021 to 2023, but ketamine increased while LSD declined.

Evidence

A nationally representative NSDUH cross-sectional trend analysis of people aged 12 or older estimated past-year use for LSD, PCP, MDMA, ketamine, Salvia divinorum, and tryptamines.

Caveat

The analysis used survey-reported past-year prevalence and demographic correlates, so it tracks population patterns rather than clinical motivations or causal drivers.
