Quality of life in women and men living with long COVID

Updated

Abstract

A total of 342 adults with long COVID (mean age = 51.20 years) completed assessments revealing notable sex differences.

  • Women reported lower health-related quality of life and greater severity of breathing difficulties compared to men.
  • No significant differences were found between sexes regarding smoking behavior, fatigue severity, or emotional symptoms.
  • In women, poorer quality of life was linked to higher levels of breathing difficulties, fatigue, and emotional distress.
  • In men, poorer quality of life was primarily associated with greater fatigue.
  • Interactions between sex and the associated factors did not reach statistical significance.
