Maintaining healthy weight loss with exercise, a GLP-1 drug, or both, followed by one year without treatment

Updated

Abstract

Participants maintained a 5.1 kg reduction in body weight one year after stopping combined exercise and obesity medication.

  • Weight loss and body fat percentage decreased significantly from initial treatment termination to one year later.
  • Participants who received a combination of supervised exercise and medication had better weight maintenance than those who received only medication.
  • More individuals from the combination treatment group maintained at least 10% weight loss compared to those on placebo or medication alone.
  • Weight regain was significantly greater after stopping medication alone compared to stopping supervised exercise.
