Changes in Heart-Rate Variability Over Time During a Long Memory Task Without a Nap

Updated

Abstract

The mental-fatigue score increased from 18.99 ± 17.09 to 46.88 ± 24.89 after a 60-minute task.

  • A significant increase in reaction time was observed, rising from 371.63 ± 37.74 ms to 407.62 ± 66.70 ms.
  • Heart-rate variability dynamics were characterized using 19 features analyzed in 5-minute windows.
  • Nominal phase effects were noted across several HRV features, but none were significant after correction for multiple comparisons.
  • Exploratory analysis indicated heterogeneous trajectories in HRV features, but reproducibility at the individual level was limited.
  • The study demonstrates the feasibility of using unobtrusive ballistocardiogram methods to monitor physiological changes during cognitive tasks.
