Heat shock leads to the targeted degradation of protein aggregates in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • Autophagy serves as a protective mechanism for recovery and viability following heat stress.
  • Ubiquitinated protein aggregates are specifically degraded in response to heat shock.
  • The macroaggrephagy receptor Cue5 mediates the degradation process triggered by heat stress.
  • Heat stress also promotes the turnover of the aggrephagy receptor Cct2 and the polyglutamine repeats of the huntingtin protein.
  • Cct2 and polyQ-HTT degradation occurs independently of traditional autophagy pathways.
