mRNA vaccine for hemagglutinin provides strong protection against H3N8 bird flu in mice

Updated

Abstract

Two doses of the HA mRNA-LNP vaccine in mice produced peak hemagglutination inhibition and microneutralization titers of 1:5120 and 1:8192, respectively.

  • The HA mRNA-LNP vaccine expresses the hemagglutinin protein of the H3N8 avian influenza virus.
  • Robust humoral immune responses were observed in mice following vaccination.
  • Vaccinated mice exhibited accelerated body weight recovery after H3N8 challenge.
  • Viral loads in lung tissues of vaccinated mice were undetectable post-challenge.
  • Milder pulmonary pathological changes were noted in vaccinated mice compared to controls.
