HER2-targeted mRNA vaccine combined with radiation slows lung tumor growth in mice and how it works

Updated

Abstract

HER2-mRNA-LNP significantly reduced tumor volume and weight in HER2-overexpressing lung cancer models.

  • The HER2-mRNA-LNP vaccine demonstrated a significant reduction in tumor volume and weight compared to control groups.
  • Combining HER2-mRNA-LNP with radiotherapy enhanced the suppression of tumor growth.
  • Expression levels of HER2 and Ki67 decreased in groups treated with HER2-mRNA-LNP alone and in combination with radiotherapy.
  • HER2-mRNA-LNP treatment increased the proportions of immune cells, including CD8+ T cells, NK cells, B cells, and M1 macrophages.
  • Levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-4, and IL-2 were elevated in lymphocytes from treated mice.
  • The combination with radiotherapy further improved the immune response and reduced regulatory T cells in tumor tissues.
