High-resolution 3D imaging to study surface cell products for corneal cell therapy

Updated

Abstract

The optimized high-resolution full-field optical coherence tomography (HR-FFOCT) system achieved imaging with resolution of less than 2 μm.

  • High-resolution images captured detailed stratified epithelial layers in cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation and oral mucosal tissue.
  • 3D reconstructions showed structural details that matched the expression of junctional proteins like occludin and actin.
  • Both two-dimensional and 3D imaging of biopsied oral mucosal tissue was successfully performed.
  • The system allowed for noninvasive monitoring of epithelial sheet architecture and thickness without the need for sectioning.
