  • Long Covid, which can occur three or more months after SARS-CoV-2 infection, is associated with symptoms like extreme fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep, and cognitive impairment.
  • The cognitive symptoms of Long Covid bear resemblance to those seen in HIV-associated neurological disorders.
  • SARS-CoV-2 Associated Neurological Disorder (SAND) may share similarities with the neurological effects of aging and could increase the risk of conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
  • SARS-CoV-2 does not appear to enter the brain as HIV does, but its proteins can still disrupt brain function through indirect mechanisms.
  • Pro-inflammatory changes in brain cells and the accumulation of neurotoxic proteins are observed in both SAND and aging-related cognitive decline.
