Hydroxyproline boosts the positive effects of branched-chain amino acids on lifespan and health in C. elegans

Updated

Abstract

Hyp combined with branched-chain amino acids improved lifespan-related phenotypes in Caenorhabditis elegans.

  • The combination of hydroxyproline and branched-chain amino acids enhanced resistance to thermal and oxidative stress.
  • Age-associated motility and muscle structure were preserved with Hyp+BCAA treatments.
  • Oxidative and lipofuscin-related markers were reduced in the presence of these amino acid combinations.
  • Increased ATP-related measurements were observed alongside improved healthspan-related traits.
  • Distinct changes in microbiota composition and altered metabolites related to NAD precursors were noted.
  • A transcriptional response linked to energy metabolism and extracellular matrix remodeling was identified with Leu+Hyp treatment.
