A significant association was found between all five epigenetic clocks and hypertension, with DunedinPACE demonstrating the strongest statistical significance (per-standard-deviation OR=1.51, P=1.3×10^-8).
- Hypertension was examined in 1528 Korean adults, identifying 53 differentially methylated positions and 10 differentially methylated regions.
- The top differentially methylated region is located at HIVEP3, which is involved in inhibiting NF-kappaB signaling.
- Chronic inflammation was nominally enriched among the hallmarks of aging, driven by HIVEP3, but lost significance when considering multiple hallmarks.
- Statistical mediation analysis indicated that all five epigenetic clocks mediated the relationship between age and hypertension, with PC-GrimAge contributing 62.2% to this mediation.
