Ibogaine's effects on multiple transporters at serotonin nerve connections

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Ibogaine, noribogaine, and related analogs showed a complex monoamine transporter profile centered on dual VMAT2 and SERT inhibition.

Evidence

Cell-based assays, isolated synaptic vesicle studies, mouse brain imaging and slices, and rat synaptosomes tested iboga compounds across VMAT2, SERT, other monoamine transporters, and OCT2.

Caveat

The work maps transporter pharmacology and rodent neurochemical explanations rather than demonstrating therapeutic effects in humans.
