Genes linked to mitochondria cleanup that may help diagnose focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

Updated

Abstract

A total of 839 differentially expressed genes were identified in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).

  • Thirty-three differential mitophagy-related genes were also identified through transcriptomic analysis.
  • Machine learning identified six candidate biomarkers with moderate-to-good ability to differentiate FSGS across various groups.
  • xCell analysis indicated significant renal immune changes in FSGS, including increased pro-inflammatory cells and reduced naive T cells and regulatory T cells.
  • Single-cell RNA sequencing suggested a trend of decreased expression of hub genes in podocytes affected by FSGS.
  • Validation through qRT-PCR and western blot confirmed downregulation of these genes in FSGS mouse models.
