Are two immune checkpoint blockers better for older patients? A review and combined analysis

Updated

Abstract

Patients aged 65 and above treated with ICI doublets showed a statistically significant improvement in overall survival compared to the control group (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.9).

  • The analysis included data from 18 trials focusing on older patients with advanced cancers.
  • Patients receiving ICI doublets had improved overall survival outcomes compared to non-ICI therapies like chemotherapy (HR = 0.89).
  • Adding CTLA-4 inhibitors to anti-PD-1/L1 monotherapy did not demonstrate significant benefits (HR = 0.92).
  • The results indicate that ICI doublets may provide modest benefits over non-ICI treatments for older cancer patients.
