Tracking Immune Responses to Tuberculosis Infection Using QFT

Updated

Abstract

QFT has been approved as a diagnostic test for TB infection since April 2005 in Japan.

  • QFT specifically diagnoses TB infection by using M. tuberculosis-specific antigens.
  • The test's accuracy is not affected by BCG vaccination or most non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections.
  • Another test, T-SPOT.TB, also employs similar antigens but has limitations in understanding immune responses.
  • Current tests cannot distinguish between active and latent TB infections or detect dormant TB.
  • There is a need for new diagnostic tests that utilize different biomarkers or antigens for improved performance.
