Comparing Immune Filtering and Placebo Treatments for Long COVID Symptoms in a Controlled Crossover Trial

Updated

Abstract

Immunoadsorption did not significantly change symptom severity in 40 patients with post-Covid syndrome.

  • No significant difference in symptom severity was observed between immunoadsorption and sham treatment, with an odds ratio of 1.17.
  • Mean difference in symptom measures, including the Post-Covid-19 Functional Scale and other assessments, showed no clinically relevant changes.
  • A total of 34 adverse events were reported, with 24 occurring during or after immunoadsorption.
  • Immunoadsorption successfully depleted autoantibodies against G protein-coupled receptors, whereas the sham treatment did not.
