Partial Cell Reprogramming with Yamanaka Factors May Reduce Stroke Damage in Older Mice

Updated

Abstract

Cyclic expression of Yamanaka factors in aged mice reduced ischemic damage by significantly smaller damaged areas compared to wild-type controls.

  • Short-term partial cellular reprogramming may improve neurological scores and sensorimotor abilities after ischemia.
  • Myelin integrity was preserved in reprogrammed mice, while wild-type mice showed significant demyelination.
  • The abundance of total oligodendrocytes and oligodendrocyte precursor cells increased significantly in OSKM-treated mice post-ischemia.
  • Reprogramming preserved neuronal density in the ischemic cortex and reduced astrocytic activation compared to wild-type mice.
  • Microglial responses were similar across both OSKM-treated and wild-type mice.
