Partial cell reprogramming inside the body improves liver flexibility and healing

Updated

Abstract

Transient in vivo expression of the four Yamanaka factors induces partial reprogramming in mouse hepatocytes, enhancing liver regenerative capacity.

  • Partial reprogramming is associated with reduced levels of differentiated liver cell markers.
  • Increased expression of proliferation markers and chromatin modifiers is observed following 4F expression.
  • Global changes in DNA accessibility occur alongside the reprogramming process.
  • Markers typical of liver stem and progenitor cells are acquired during the reprogramming.
  • Short-term expression of 4F enhances liver regeneration through a mechanism involving topoisomerase2.
