Preserved Ratio Impaired Spirometry (PRISm) is significantly associated with increased all-cause mortality.
- PRISm is characterized by a FEV1/FVC ratio ≥ 0.7 and FEV1 < 80% of the predicted value.
- The 'inflammatory-metabolic axis' is proposed as the central mechanism driving PRISm.
- Inflammaging may create a pro-inflammatory environment that, when amplified by external factors, leads to chronic inflammation.
- Metabolic dysfunction could interact with inflammation through oxidative stress and abnormal signaling from fat-derived molecules.
- PRISm may represent an early sign of broader systemic inflammatory and metabolic dysregulation.
- Targeting the interactions between inflammation and metabolism might help in the early identification and intervention for PRISm.
