Links between insomnia and type 2 diabetes using genetic analysis

Updated

Abstract

Individuals with insomnia are 1.14 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus than those without insomnia.

  • A total of 167 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with insomnia were identified as instrumental variables.
  • The analysis suggested a robust association between insomnia and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • The study showed that the effect of insomnia on type 2 diabetes is unlikely to be influenced by pleiotropy.
  • Sensitivity analyses confirmed consistent estimates regarding the relationship between insomnia and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
