Molecular study of a protein that binds a male hormone and its gene activity linked to the male hormone gene in the oriental river prawn

Abstract

Full-length cDNA of IAGBP was cloned from the oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense.

  • Mn-IAGBP mRNA was found in all adult male prawn tissues, with the highest levels in the testis.
  • Mn-IAG mRNA was present in the androgenic gland and hepatopancreas.
  • Two gene copies of Mn-IAGBP and Mn-IAG were identified through genomic analysis.
  • Injection of Mn-IAGBP double-stranded RNA reduced Mn-IAG transcription significantly.
  • Injection of Mn-IAG double-stranded RNA reduced Mn-IAGBP transcription significantly in several tissues.
  • These findings suggest a transcriptional relationship between IAGBP and IAG in M. nipponense.
