Effectiveness of 2025-2026 mRNA-1283 and BNT162b2 COVID-19 Vaccines in Preventing COVID-19 Outcomes in US Adults 65 and Older

Updated

Abstract

Absolute vaccine effectiveness (aVE) of mRNA-1283 against COVID-19-related hospitalization was 59.3% among adults aged ≥ 65 years.

  • mRNA-1283 showed aVE of 42.0% against medically attended COVID-19 in adults ≥ 65 years.
  • For adults aged ≥ 75 years, aVE of mRNA-1283 was 66.9% against hospitalization and 50.2% against medically attended COVID-19.
  • BNT162b2 displayed aVE of 48.3% against hospitalization and 41.2% against medically attended COVID-19 in adults ≥ 65 years.
  • Among adults aged ≥ 75 years, aVE of BNT162b2 was 45.9% against hospitalization and 44.0% against medically attended COVID-19.
  • These findings suggest mRNA-1283 may offer more protection than BNT162b2 for older adults.
