Connections between Internet addiction and depression in Chinese teenagers

Abstract

A total of 8,176 Chinese adolescents were analyzed to understand the relationship between internet addiction and depression.

  • Node CESD7 ('Could not get things going') was identified as the most influential symptom in the depression network.
  • Node IAT16 ('Reluctant to be offline') emerged as the most influential symptom in the internet addiction network.
  • CESD7 ('Could not get things going') was highlighted as the key bridge symptom linking depression and internet addiction.
  • CESD8 ('Trouble focusing') also served as a significant bridge symptom between the two conditions.
  • A significant gender difference in edge weights was observed, with a p-value of 0.002.
