Online and Computer-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety and Depression in Teens and Young Adults

Updated

Abstract

cCBT showed small to medium effects on depressive symptoms (g=0.51) and anxiety symptoms (g=0.44) in adolescents and young adults compared to passive controls.

  • The analysis included 24 randomized controlled trials, with most studies showing a high risk of bias.
  • cCBT demonstrated effects on depressive symptoms similar to those of active treatment controls, but the results for depressive symptoms were not definitive.
  • At long-term follow-up, cCBT had a small effect size on depressive symptoms compared to passive controls (g=0.27).
  • No moderators of treatment effects were identified in the analysis.
  • The overall evidence quality for the outcomes was assessed as limited due to the high risk of bias in included studies.
