Inulin-derived sugar compounds may influence behavior changes and gut bacteria in mice with colitis

Updated

Abstract

3% DFA-III significantly alleviated DSS-induced colonic injury and behavioral abnormalities in mice.

  • DFA-III treatment reduced serum levels of cortisol, IL-6, and TNF-alpha.
  • Changes in gene expression related to brain-derived neurotrophic factor were observed in the hippocampus.
  • Increased butyrate levels were associated with alterations in gut microbial composition.
  • Preliminary evidence suggests that inulin-derived DFAs may help mitigate inflammatory and behavioral changes linked to ulcerative colitis.
