Cell proliferation

Integrin Beta-1 helps stabilize cell structure to reduce stress-induced cell death and disc degeneration by supporting mitochondrial cleanup

Updated

Abstract

The expression level of Vimentin was decreased in degenerated NP cells induced by excessive mechanical stress.

  • Knockdown of Vimentin promoted NP cell pyroptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration in rats.
  • Vimentin overexpression significantly alleviated excessive mechanical stress-induced NP cell pyroptosis and degeneration.
  • Vimentin ameliorated mitochondrial dysfunction caused by excessive mechanical stress through a specific cellular process.
  • An interaction between Itgb1 and Vimentin was identified, with Itgb1 enhancing Vimentin protein stability.
  • Itgb1 reduced Vimentin degradation by blocking specific binding, thereby protecting against mechanical stress effects.
  • Restoring Vimentin function through gene overexpression inhibited NP cell pyroptosis and delayed degeneration progression in rats.
