JinChan YiShen TongLuo Formula may improve energy production and cell survival in diabetic kidney disease through the HIF-1α-PINK1-Parkin pathway

Updated

Abstract

JCYSTL treatment significantly decreased albuminuria and improved kidney function in diabetic nephropathy rats.

  • JCYSTL reduced serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and uric acid levels while increasing creatinine clearance in diabetic nephropathy rats.
  • In vitro, JCYSTL improved mitochondrial function by increasing mitochondrial membrane potential and activity of respiratory chain complexes.
  • Treatment with JCYSTL decreased apoptotic cell percentages and altered the expression of apoptotic proteins in hypoxia-induced kidney cells.
  • JCYSTL enhanced the accumulation of mitophagy-related proteins but did not exert effects in cells with impaired mitophagy due to PINK1 knockdown.
  • The expression of HIF-1α was significantly higher in JCYSTL-treated rats compared to the model group, indicating a potential mechanism of action.
