Jujuboside A may improve polycystic ovary syndrome by boosting cell cleanup in ovarian support cells through SIRT3 and PINK1/Parkin pathways

Updated

Abstract

JuA significantly improved body weight, ovarian morphology, glucose tolerance, and insulin resistance in PCOS mice.

  • JuA is associated with partial restoration of ovarian function in a mouse model of PCOS.
  • SIRT3 expression increased in granulosa cells, mouse ovaries, and KGN cells following JuA treatment.
  • JuA alleviated oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage linked to SIRT3 in affected tissues.
  • The treatment reduced excessive activation of the PINK1/Parkin pathway, which is involved in the process of mitophagy.
  • Transmission electron microscopy revealed that JuA protected granulosa cells from mitochondrial damage.
