Abstract

β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations were higher after ketone and carbohydrate supplementation compared to carbohydrate alone.

  • There was a significant decrease in time to exhaustion for the ketone plus carbohydrate group compared to carbohydrate alone.
  • Performance in a weighted time trial was slower with ketone plus carbohydrate supplementation than with carbohydrate alone.
  • Rates of glucose oxidation and metabolic clearance rate were similar between the two supplementation conditions during steady-state exercise.
  • Glucose appearance and disappearance rates were lower in the ketone plus carbohydrate group compared to carbohydrate alone during steady-state exercise.
