Leukocyte Telomere Length and Telomerase Gene Variant Linked to Cannabis and Synthetic Cannabinoid Use Disorder

Updated

Abstract

The study investigates the association between the human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene (hTERT)-MNS16A polymorphism and cannabis or synthetic cannabinoid use disorder.

  • There may be a link between the hTERT-MNS16A polymorphism and the likelihood of developing cannabis or synthetic cannabinoid use disorder.
  • Leukocyte telomere length (LTL) was measured in individuals with cannabis use disorder and compared to a control group.
  • The findings suggest that variations in the hTERT gene could be associated with telomere length differences in individuals with substance use disorders.
