Abstract

Linagliptin treatment is associated with improved kidney function and structure in a mouse model of LPS-induced acute kidney injury.

  • Linagliptin improved kidney function as indicated by decreased serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels.
  • The protective effects of linagliptin may be linked to increased levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
  • Activation of NRF2, an important cellular defense mechanism, was enhanced by linagliptin treatment.
  • Linagliptin reduced markers of oxidative stress and inflammation while increasing antioxidant levels.
  • The TrkB antagonist ANA-12 partially reversed the beneficial effects of linagliptin, indicating the role of BDNF signaling.
