DNA Vaccine in Fat Particles Prevented Lung Damage After Different Flu Infection in Pigs

Updated

Abstract

The lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated DNA (LNP-DNA) vaccine prevented the development of gross lung pathology in pigs exposed to an antigenically mismatched Influenza A virus strain.

  • Both the HA protein-based vaccine and the HA DNA-based vaccine did not induce cross-reactive antibodies or prevent viral shedding after heterologous challenge.
  • The HA protein-based vaccine worsened lung lesions compared to non-vaccinated pigs.
  • Distinct gene expression profiles were observed between pigs vaccinated with the two different vaccine types.
  • The findings indicate that the LNP-DNA vaccine may be a safer option for swine vaccination against Influenza A virus.
