Vaccine

Lipid nanoparticle vaccine using anchored E2 mRNA triggers broad immune protection against bovine viral diarrhoea virus in calves

Updated

Abstract

The mE2 mRNA-LNP vaccine reduced BVDV infection rates significantly in vaccinated herds.

  • Both mE2 and tE2 mRNA-LNP vaccines induced strong E2-specific IgG and neutralising antibodies in mice.
  • The mE2 mRNA-LNP vaccine showed superior immunogenicity compared to the tE2 mRNA-LNP in calves.
  • Two doses of the 100 μg mE2 mRNA-LNP vaccine effectively protected calves against BVDV challenge.
  • Robust cross-neutralising antibodies against multiple BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 strains were elicited by the mE2 mRNA-LNP for up to six months.
  • The mE2 mRNA-LNP vaccine was administered at high doses without adverse effects in calves.
