Abstract

Liraglutide significantly reduced the incidence of diabetes in mice treated with low doses of streptozotocin.

  • Liraglutide pretreatment preserved the structural integrity of pancreatic islets.
  • Insulin levels and glucose tolerance improved following liraglutide treatment.
  • The drug inhibited the release of HMGB1, a molecule associated with pancreatic cell injury.
  • Liraglutide reduced the expression of TLR4 and various inflammatory factors, including IFN-γ, IL-1β, and CXCL10.
  • Exogenous HMGB1 or blocking the GLP-1 receptor decreased the protective effects of liraglutide.
