Essence

Long COVID diagnoses in one health system appeared skewed toward female, non-Hispanic White, and privately insured patients.

Evidence

This electronic health record cross-sectional comparison examined Advocate Health-Midwest COVID-19 and Long COVID documentation from March 1, 2020, to November 1, 2023, by sex, race/ethnicity, insurance type, and combined demographic groups.

Caveat

Diagnosis patterns may reflect who seeks and obtains care rather than true Long COVID prevalence, especially for patients facing multiple barriers to diagnosis.
