Changes in long COVID cases among US adults from 2022 to 2024

Abstract

The prevalence of long COVID among US adults increased from 7.0% in 2022 to 8.4% in 2023 before plateauing at 8.3% in 2024.

  • Current long COVID prevalence remained stable at approximately 3.4% from 2022 to 2024.
  • Among those with prior COVID-19 infection, the prevalence of ever long COVID declined from 17.7% to 13.7%.
  • Long COVID was more frequently reported by women, adults aged 35-64 years, and individuals with lower educational attainment.
  • Significant activity limitation was reported by 19.8% of adults with current long COVID, particularly among older adults and those with lower incomes.
  • Demographic and socioeconomic disparities were evident in long COVID prevalence and its impact on daily activities.
