Low-dose buprenorphine after ketamine for suicidal thoughts in major depression: a controlled clinical trial

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Low-dose buprenorphine after ketamine sustained greater reductions in suicidal ideation than placebo in adults with major depressive disorder.

Evidence

This single-center randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial assigned follow-on sublingual buprenorphine or placebo for 4 weeks after open-label intravenous ketamine in 50 adults with MDD and suicidal ideation.

Caveat

The trial was small and single-center, and depression scores did not differ significantly between groups.
