Lower risks of falls and hip fractures with semaglutide and tirzepatide compared to DPP-4 inhibitors in older adults with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Semaglutide and tirzepatide are associated with significantly lower risks of falls and femoral fractures in older adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight or obesity.

  • Older adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity may experience fewer falls when treated with semaglutide or tirzepatide compared to DPP-4 inhibitors.
  • The risk of femoral fractures is also lower with semaglutide and tirzepatide in this population.
  • These findings suggest a potential benefit of these medications in preventing injuries related to falls and fractures.
