Leaf Flavonoids from Lycium barbarum May Slow Aging by Regulating Cell Protection and Adhesion Pathways

Abstract

Flavonoids from Lycium barbarum leaves (LBLF) may alleviate oxidative stress and show anti-aging effects.

  • LBLF was tested in vitro at concentrations of 20 to 60 µg/mL and in vivo at doses of 50 to 120 mg/kg.
  • In models of oxidative stress, LBLF downregulated Keap1 and upregulated Nrf2 and HO-1 in the Keap1-Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.
  • Increased antioxidant enzyme activity and reduced malondialdehyde levels were observed, indicating reduced oxidative stress.
  • Transcriptomic analysis revealed 402 differentially expressed genes, with significant enrichment in the cell adhesion pathway.
  • Cdh1 expression increased by 1.38-fold, while Cldn1 expression decreased by 1.45-fold, potentially influencing cell adhesion.
