Ongoing summary and combined analysis of studies on MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD with open access data

Updated

Abstract

In an analysis of 6 randomized controlled trials with 286 participants, MDMA-assisted therapy showed a significant reduction in PTSD symptoms.

  • MDMA-assisted therapy resulted in a greater reduction in PTSD symptoms compared to control conditions (Hedges' g = -0.71).
  • Treatment with MDMA-assisted therapy led to higher response rates (risk ratio = 1.35) compared to placebo.
  • MDMA-assisted therapy was associated with increased remission rates (risk ratio = 2.25) when compared to placebo.
  • Most included studies had a low risk of bias according to Cochrane guidelines, although limitations related to expectancy and study conduct were noted.
  • The findings were assigned a low certainty rating based on the GRADE approach, indicating that further research is needed.
