MDMA may increase flexibility in thinking and brain changes in the decision-making area during fear reduction

Updated

Abstract

Essence

MDMA was associated with stronger prefrontal plasticity and faster updating of neural representations during fear extinction in mice.

Evidence

This was a preclinical mouse imaging study using longitudinal two-photon microscopy and miniscope Ca2+ imaging of medial prefrontal and infralimbic cortex during fear extinction.

Caveat

The findings come from mouse neural and behavioral measures, so they do not establish human therapeutic benefit or clinical safety.
