Parkinson's Disease Linked to Metabolism Problems

Updated

Abstract

Essence

This review proposes that Parkinson's disease and metabolic disorders may share pathogenic pathways and that some metabolic treatments may help Parkinson's disease.

Evidence

This is a narrative review linking Parkinson's disease with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, and summarizing preclinical and clinical findings on antidiabetic and antiparkinsonian drugs.

Caveat

The case rests on cross-disease overlap and mixed preclinical and clinical evidence, so the abstract does not establish a disease-modifying treatment effect in Parkinson's disease.
