Reverse Shoulder Replacement Using a Metal Implant with Side-Shifted Socket

Abstract

A total of 42 patients undergoing metallic lateralized reverse shoulder arthroplasty demonstrated excellent clinical outcomes in terms of shoulder function and pain relief.

  • Bipolar metallic lateralized reverse shoulder arthroplasty (MIO-RSA) may improve shoulder function, muscle strength, and reduce pain without causing instability.
  • MIO-RSA is associated with substantial deformity correction in patients with advanced glenoid deformity, as observed in follow-up studies.
  • Complete baseplate seating was noted in 90% of patients receiving MIO-RSA, suggesting enhanced stability compared to other methods.
  • Previous techniques, such as bony increased-offset reverse shoulder arthroplasty (BIO-RSA), showed union with native bone in less than 70% of patients, indicating potential limitations.
